CD1 GOP field may grow soon

Former senate President Ken Bennett, who was rumored to be considering a run for the 1st CD this winter, appears to be taking another look at the race. Inside Edge has confirmed with more than one source Bennett is taking a hard look and may decide to enter the race in the coming month.

Sydney Hay, who had a successful $100k fundraiser last night is a declared candidate and Corporations Commissioner Kris Mayes is expected to announce her intentions to seek the seat over the next couple of weeks.

Insiders believe Bennett would be a strong compromise candidate for those who are worried about Kris Mayes not being able to win a primary because of her close connections with Governor Janet Napolitano and the conservative Hay not being able to win a general election is a more swing district.
