Republican Thayer Verschoor, the Majority Leader from LD-22, looked to be facing a primary challenge last fall from State Rep. Eddie Farnsworth. Farnsworth is term-limited and under normal circumstances you would expect Verschoor and Farnsworth to change places. All that changed with Senate President Tim Bee deciding to run for Congress in CD8. Farnsworth did some saber-rattling and was looking at a possible primary challenge, but according to a source in LD22, that appears to have died off.
If Bee were to be successful in his Congressional bid, Verschoor would be in line for the Senate President seat if the Republicans are able to hold onto the Senate. After months of speculation it appears Farnsworth is leaning towards not challenging Verschoor. Of all the primary opponents Verschoor could face, the popular Farnsworth would probably be the toughest competitor and would be able to self-finance.
