Republicans face large financial disadvantage

While Arizona has been trending more purple than red lately, Republicans still hold a registration advantage. Republicans also maintain control of the state legislature and both U.S. Senate seats. But you would never know it based on fund raising numbers the committees are putting up.

While the state Republican Committee has still not had their report posted on the Secretary of State website (we assume they still have not filed a report due last week), looking at their numbers through thepre-primary filing period of August 20th is not pretty.

Based on the reports filed in June and August the Arizona Democratic Committee has spent more than $675K and still had $325K cash on hand. Over the same time frame the Republican Party had spent just under $100K and ended the period with $58K in the bank.

Since then the Democratic Committee has not slowed down. Over the last month they raised another $661K, spent $372K and ended with $615K.

We will wait until the Republicans file their report to see what they have done over the last month, but it is no wonder some Republican operatives like Nathan Sproul are not overly optimistic about the coming election cycle.
