Sylvia Tenney Allen gets nod for November
By Wally EdgeOn Friday the Navajo Board of Supervisors chose state house candidate Sylvia Tenney Allen to fill the seat left open with the death of LD5 Republican Senator Jake Flake. But with the time frame to turn in nomination signatures passed, it was up to the local LD5 Republican committee to select who would be on the ballot in November. Whoever received that honor would effectively become the winner of the November election as there was no Democratic opponent.
Many considered state Representative Bill Konopnicki as the front-runner to get the party nod. Konopnicki is a proven vote getter and the only elected Republican as the other Representative seat is held by Assistant Minority Leader Jack Brown. Many also thought Konopnicki made sense because he is finishing up his third term in the House and will be term-limited if re-elected in November. But the LD5 Republicans decided to go a different way. They have selected Tenney Allen to fill the senate spot on the ballot.

Konopnicki Looses
Saturday June 14th PC's from throughout Legislative District Five elected Sylvia Allen to Senator Flakes ballot position in the September Primary.
This was the second significant defeat for veteran Representative Bill Konopnicki who saw his RealID bill go down to defeat 57:1 in Wednesday's House vote. Konopnicki, who had hoped to replace Senator Flake was defeated by nearly 60% in his own District.
Former Payson Mayor Barbara Brewer was elected to replace Allen in the House Primary and will compete with Konopnicki against Democrat Jack Brown. Both Konopnicki and Brown are term limited after this election.
Konopnicki was gracious in his defeat, pledging to support both of his Republican running mates Allen and Brewer. Party unity was the veteran's promise.
...and yes, he was eligible to be elected by the district PC's to replace Senator Flake on the ballot. The appointment to the balance of Flake's term was restricted only to Navajo County.

You're right and Wally is wrong. Konopnicki wasn't eligible as he's not a resident of Navajo County.
Wally got it wrong on Allen/Konopnicki (?)
I may be wrong but I do believe that Konopnicki was ineligible to be appointed by the PCs. While K is from the district (LD5)he is not from the county (Navajo) that Flake was from. K resides in Graham. So not only does the replacement have to be from the district, but when the LD spans several counties, the replacement must also be from the same county as the original office holder.
