David slays Goliath

With all the attention to the Mayoral run-off between Scott Smith and Rex Griswold in Mesa, little attention was given to the race in City Council District 5 where Phil Austin and Dina Higgins were vying to fill the seat that was held by Griswold until he stepped down to run for Mayor.

Any casual observer would have looked website for Austin or the website for Higgins and started to believe Austin may be running a more professional campaign.  Then when you factor in Austin raised nearly 10 times as much money as Higgins and had the endorsements of every one from John McCain to former Mayor Don Strauch and the Mesa Police Department it looked like Higgins was going to have a rough night.

But Higgins had a secret weapon in her arsenal.  Higgins had s drive to win and a work ethic that wouldn’t stop.  Higgins was not afraid to knock on doors.  Higgins proved money and big named endorsements can be overcome by a lot of shoe leather and old fashion knocking on doors.
