CD-1 one of the hottest races in the country

Stuart Rothenberg of the Rothenberg Political Report has the latest House ratings. Of the races that are up for grabs Arizona has three that have made the competitive grade.

Rothenberg lists CD1 as a pure toss-up. AZ’s CD1 is one of only 15 pure toss-up districts in the country which will mean lots of national attention from both sides.

Ann Kirkpatrick is the leading Democrat in CD1, but still needs to get through Howard Shanker, Mary Kim Titla and Jeff Brown for the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side Sydney Hay is the current front runner against Preston Korn and former senate President Ken Bennett is considering entering the race.

Freshmen Congressmen Harry Mitchell of CD5 and Gabrielle Giffords of CD8 are both in lean Democrat districts. Mitchell will be facing one of several Republicans currently vying for the primary and Giffords will be facing senate President Tim Bee in November.
