Sources in contact with State Treasurer Dean Martin report that he is considering entering the race for the District 3 congressional seat being vacated by Rep. John Shadegg. According to the sources, Martin has been "inundated" with calls from supporters urging him to run.
Martin's spokeswoman Kimberly Yee wouldn't confirm that he is thinking about running, but did point out that "80 percent of the 3rd District is made up of the same constituents Treasurer Martin represented in the Arizona Senate," when he was chairman of the Finance Committee - a clear indication that it's on his radar.
Martin joins a growing list of possible contenders who are confirmed to be pondering whether to enter the race, including most recently House Speaker Jim Weiers (R-Phoenix).
In order to run, Treasurer Martin would need to resign his post, which might scuttle his chances to vie for the gubernatorial spot Gov. Janet Napolitano terms out of in 2010. Martin has been considered an early contender in that race.

Martin won't run
Don't be silly, Martin is not going to run, he's under investigation by the FBI for skimming campaign funds during his 2004 state senate race. Image the huge publicity if he were to be indicted for money laundering during a congressional campaign.
