McCain's influence, or lack there of, on Republicans in Arizona delegation

John McCain, who said he supported the recovery bill, was unable to deliver any of the four  Republicans in Arizona's delegation. On a side note George Bush was only able to deliver 3 of 19 Texas Republicans in support of the measure.

Cheney coming to Ariz. for Schweikert?

Rumor on the streets is Vice-President Dick Cheney is coming to Arizona for a fund raising event with AZ-5 Republican David Schweikert. Evidence points to a fund raising event by either Cheney or George Bush in the near future. On September 8th Schweikert amended his statement of organization to add an affiliated committee - Friends of David Schweikert. A similar committee was filed by Tim Bee before Bush's fundraiser.

The Schweikert campaign says they have not had contact with the VP's office. **Note: While this is not a confirmed visit, it is standard procedure and required for a campaign to deny a visit from the President or VP until just before the visit.

Soccer moms, NASCAR dads, hockey moms?

In 1992 and 1996 Bill Clinton gave us soccer moms.  In 2000 and 2004 George Bush gave us NASCAR dads.  Could the senator from Arizona of all places give us the newest swing group, hockey moms?  They are going to try at least. A new website Hockey Moms for McCain-Palin has launched.

Flake shown when discussing earmarks

During President Bush's State of the Union speech tonight he hit on earmarks and how they will not be funded this year.  Arizona's Congressman Jeff Flake (R-6) was shown by the video feed when this issue was discussed.  Flake is known as the anti-earmark champion in the House and is currently trying to use that reputation to win a highly sought after seat on the House Appropriation Committee.
