Five things to watch this week

Five things to watch this week

1)      Will there be Clean Elections matching funds for the general?

2)      Did Thayer Verschoor spend his money to early or did Eddie Farnsworth overestimate his name value

3)      Will Tony Bouie’s endorsements place him in the top 2 or are the negative attacks to much to overcome

4)      AZ-5, Schweikert?  Bitter Smith? Or will Ogsbury walk his way into an upset?

5)      AZ-1 Sandra Livingstone came on strong with what seemed like an endorsement a day over the final few weeks, but was it to late to overtake Sydney Hay who was campaigning for months before anyone ever heard of Livingstone.

LD22 Senate race… Wasn’t there going to be a race of the ages here?

Earlier this spring we had written a few times about how a race of the ages was about to develop in LD22.  Two very well known and well respected legislators were going to be squaring off for the senate seat currently held by Republican Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor.  Verschoor is being challenged by state Representative Thayer Verschoor who is in his final term because of term limits.

Farnsworth may be hurting himself long-term

With Senate President Tim Bee on his way out the door, LD22 Republican Thayer Verschoor is in line to become the next senate president if Republicans hold onto the state senate.  Because LD22 Republican Rep. Eddie Farnsworth is term-limited, In a normal election year they would change seats.  But with the possibility of senate president in front of him, local Republicans think it is unreasonable for anyone to think Verschoor would move over to a state representative seat.

If Farnsworth decided to take one term off, the senate seat would be his and the Republicans would rally around him for being a loyal team player.  Except that’s not the case.  Farnsworth has decided to challenge Verschoor for the seat in the September primary.

Senate closing in on budget deal

The State Senate may be close to reaching an agreement on a budget bill, according to sources within the Senate leadership's offices.

"They are working on it right now," said a staffer for Senate Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor (R-Gilbert).
