Three Arizona superdelegates avoid stepping out

As the Democratic primary winds down and Barack Obama more than likely moves towards the nomination tonight, it is worth looking at the three superdelegates in Arizona who avoided taking a stance. 

Democratic Party Chairman Don Bivens is uncommitted, and of the three uncommitted he probably has the best reason to remain so.  His Governor is with Obama, some of his biggest donors are with Hillary Clinton and his delegation is split.

Mitchell picks Obama

Democratic Congressman Harry Mitchell has announced he will be supporting Barack Obama with his superdelegate vote.  Obama beat Hillary Clinton by 1500 votes in CD5.

Democrats finalize delegate list

After a lengthy convention lasting well into the night, the Arizona Democratic Party has a final list of the delegation it will be sending to Denver in August for the Democratic National Convention. 19 new delegates and three alternates were chosen, which, in addition to those selected at the CD caucuses in March, brings the total to 67 delegates and 9 alternates.

Further look at Arizona Democratic Delegates

While 56 of Arizona’s delegates where determined from the Super Tuesday presidential preference election, that is not the end of the story for Arizona’s delegates. While Hillary Clinton leads 31 delegates to Barack Obama’s 25 delegates, the superdelegates from Arizona are not all committed yet.  read more »

Napolitano dialing for Obama

Janet Napolitano has been enlisted to help win over superdelegates to Barack Obama's camp, according to a New York Times article out today:

"Mr. Obama has enlisted Tom Daschle, the popular former Senate majority leader, as well as Gov. Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the party’s 2004 presidential nominee.  read more »
