Roll Call story makes the rounds in CD3

Democrats are pushing around a Roll Call story today raising questions about Republican incumbent John Shadegg's district office. 

Andrew Eldredge-Martin, campaign manager for Democratic Congressional candidate Bob Lord, writes in a campaign email that he “chuckled” this morning over the story.

May says he's still in the CD3 race

Incumbent Congressman John Shadegg is back in the race, but Republican state legislator Steve May tells the Arizona Republic he's not backing down.

"Republican Steve May, a former legislator and gay activist, earlier in the day reaffirmed his commitment to the race. 'It's time for a new direction in the way our district is represented,' he said."

Weiers and Winkler join chorus urging Shadegg to stay

Arizona House Speaker Jim Weiers (R-Phoenix) and Paradise Valley Mayor Ed Winkler have expressed their desire for Rep. John Shadegg to run for re-election to the seat they might otherwise be seeking. Winkler declared his intention to run for the seat when it appeared Shadegg would vacate it, and Weiers had been seriously considering it.

Cook to shift CD3 status today

With Republican John Shadegg announcing that he will not be running for reelection in CD3, the Cook Political Report is planning Thursday afternoon to shift its categorization of the race from “Solid Republican” to “Likely Republican,” Cook House Editor David Wasserman says.  read more »
