Ron Paul's Arizona director running for Legislature: UPDATED

Andre Campos, Arizona Director of Texas Rep. Ron Paul's

Andre Campos, Arizona Director of Texas Rep. Ron Paul's insurgent Republican candidacy, has filed to run against state Sen. Rebecca Rios (D-Hayden) in LD23.

Rios turned in 681 signatures to qualify for the ballot. He is the sole Republican facing Rios, the state Senate Minority Whip and four-term legislator. Campos had wanted to turn in 700 signatures, and came just 19 shy.

While Campos won't be getting any help from Paul, he does anticipate that his association with Paul will prove a boon to his campaign.

"Probably a lot of the people that supported Ron Paul in my district will support me as well," said Campos.

Pullen welcomes Paul

Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen appeared with the sole remaining challenger to Sen. John McCain's presidential nomination at an event in Phoenix last night. Though this has rankled some Arizona Republicans who perceive disloyalty toward Sen. McCain in the appearance, both Pullen and the Paul campaign say it was simply a show of Republican solidarity, rather than a sly rebuke to the presumptive nominee.

Given the checkered history between Pullen and Sen. McCain, some Republicans questioned the wisdom of the chairman appearing with Paul, whose supporters have often been vocal in their opposition to McCain. However, Andre Campos, Paul's Arizona director, took pains to alleviate fears that Paul supporters will do anything to embarrass McCain or the Republican Party.

The power of 19

According to a blog report today in the LA Times, Ron Paul’s supporters are looking to make a statement and to embarrass John McCain in Minnesota.  The report says Paul’s forces have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against McCain. According to the latest numbers, Ron Paul has roughly 19 delegates to Minn.  If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to see it, does it make noise?

A disciplined convention

Anyone expecting a repeat of Nevada's Republican Party Convention today was sorely mistaken. Despite an effort to secure the election of supporters of Rep. Ron Paul as delegates to the Republican National Convention in September, the "Unity Slate," crafted by the party to ensure that only delegates who fully support the state's favorite son would be represent Arizona in Minneapolis this September, was elected with almost no changes.

Arizona's other presidential candidate

While all eyes are focused on Sen. John McCain's quest to become the first Arizonan in the White House, a Willcox man lacking political experience, significant support or even 1/10,000th of the McCain's cash is running a quiet, nationwide campaign to beat him to it.

Mitchell and Paul make strange bed fellows

What is worse than having to vote yourself a pay raise then having to run for reelection? Well Congress took care of that in 1989 and decided to make it so they would receive an automatic cost of living increase unless they voted it down. I bet we all wish we had that power.  read more »

Romney and Clinton win Nevada

After realizing his chances of winning South Carolina were slim, Mitt Romney took a different approach and decided to campaign in Nevada instead of South Carolina. With Mitt Romney and Ron Paul being the only Republican candidates to spend any time in Nevada this week, Nevada appears to have rewarded the former Massachusetts Governor. The AP is reporting, based on entrance polling, Mitt Romney has won the Republican side of the Nevada Caucus.
