Weiers and Winkler join chorus urging Shadegg to stay

Arizona House Speaker Jim Weiers (R-Phoenix) and Paradise Valley Mayor Ed Winkler have expressed their desire for Rep. John Shadegg to run for re-election to the seat they might otherwise be seeking. Winkler declared his intention to run for the seat when it appeared Shadegg would vacate it, and Weiers had been seriously considering it.

Goldwater has kind words for Winkler

Susan Goldwater, the widow of former Arizona Senator and 1964 Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, praised Paradise Valley mayor and Third Congressional District candidate Ed Winkler today, though she stopped short of an endorsement.

“I’m impressed with his capabilities and his commitment to public service,” Goldwater told PolitickerAZ.com.

Goldwater said she would not endorse Winkler or any of the candidates thinking about entering the race, but that she had an interest in the campaign.

Ed Winkler first to enter CD3 race

Paradise Valley mayor Ed Winkler has confirmed the rumor that tonight he will announce his intention to run for the CD3 seat being vacated by John Shadegg.

"There is a meeting in Legislative District 11 tonight, and there I will announce that I would love to have the opportunity to become the Republican nominee," Winkler said. Does this mean that he is officially in the race? "Yes," he replied.  read more »
