Az. lawmakers don’t blog

Stateline.org has published a list of state lawmakers who publish on a regular blog.  Small population states such as Alaska and Idaho as well as large states like Texas and Pennsylvania all have bloggers.  One state that is missing is Arizona.  Well it’s campaign season, maybe someone can work that into their platform.

What ever happened with assault on the 1st Amendment in Oro Valley?

Last January this column wrote a piece about an Oro Valley blogger who was being pressured by Oro Valley to register as a political action committee because his blog supported two challengers of incumbent council members.  Art Segal received a letter from the Town Clerk and also received a phone call from the town attorney who we

Conservative, Liberal and Independent bloggers…. Get ready to unite.

According to a report on Arizona Daily Star’s web site, Oro Valley is trying to squash a local blogger’s 1st Amendment rights because they don’t like who he endorsed on his blog.

Art Segal has been highly critical of local officials on his blog www.letorovalleyexcel.blogspot.com. And once he endorsed challengers to incumbent council members, Oro Valley Town Clerk Kathryn Cuvelier told Segal in a letter he needed to register as a political committee. The letter was followed up with a call from the town’s attorney confirming the letter. Glad to see tax dollars are being spent on such worthy matters.

Conservative and liberal bloggers disagree on a lot of issues, but we are going to assume this is not one.
