Republicans Warde Nichols and Steven Yarbrough are both running for re-election in this Republican stronghold. Nichols was hoping for another 2004 where the Republican team was unchallenged. Nichols won the second seat by a little less than 2000 votes in 2002 and that number was cut in half in 2006 when Nichols beat Phil Hettmansperger by less than 1000 votes. Hettmansperger was so encouraged his showing that he is back for a rematch this year and campaigning hard. Nichols and Yarbrough, both going after their 4th consecutive terms, are hoping to hold off Hettmansperger one more time.

Governor heading to Casa Grande for Kirkpatrick, state candidates

Gov. Janet Napolitano is continuing her push for Democratic candidates statewide, with a swing through Casa Grande Wednesday to campaign for 1st Congressional District candidate Ann Kirkpatrick, as well as candidates for state House and Senate seats.

Kirkpatrick, who faces Republican Sydney Hay for the open 1st district seat, will join Napolitano as well as Pinal County School Superintendent Orlenda Roberts, Florence Mayor Vicki Kilvinger, and Kearny Mayor Deborah Sommers at the Casa Grande Historical Society at 3:30 p.m.

From there the governor and Kirkpatrick head to BeDillon's restaurant, also in Casa Grande, for an event with state Rep. Barbara McGuire, state Sen. Rebecca Rios and state House candidate Ernie Bustamante.
