Legislators honored for innovation

Thursday night, twelve Arizona legislators were honored at the annual Governor's Celebration of Innovation awards for their work to help facilitate technology development in Arizona.

The awards, backed primarily by the Arizona Technology Council and presented by Tech Council CEO Steve Zylstra and Jan Lesher, chief of staff to Gov. Janet Napolitano, included the "Tech 10" - ten legislators who were highlighted for their contributions to technology advancement - plus two "Outstanding Legislator" awards to those who were especially influential.

Arizona Technology Council reveals legislative endorsements

The Arizona Technology Council, the trade association representing leaders in Arizona's technology-based industries, has put out its Vote TechSmart voters' guide for 2008 Arizona Legislature races.

"We hope this resource is useful to our members as they make their choices on Election Day,” said Steve Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. “Casting a vote in the upcoming election is critical to protecting and advancing Arizona as a top-tier technology state. It is crucial that we come together as one voice to elect candidates who have a strong and supportive view of the industry and understand the role technology plays in Arizona’s economy."

The Republican-heavy list favors incumbents. Out of 54 endorsements, only 12 are for candidates who aren't current officeholders. In the District 17 House race, three candidates were endorsed, though only two can be elected.

Immigration and budget are troubling for Arizonans, according to new poll

Illegal immigration and education topped the list of things Arizonans are most concerned about, according to a survey conducted earlier this month on behalf of the Arizona Technology Council. The findings also indicate that Arizonans are anxious over the state's budget crisis, but believe the economy is doing well overall.
