Arizona Corporation Commissioner Kris Mayes is "confident Congressman Renzi will do what is best for the district and his constituents," Mayes spokesman Robert Johnson told PolitickerAZ today. "He's still the Congressman." Johnson wouldn't elaborate on whether Mayes thinks Renzi should resign or not. "That's not something she feels she should comment on."
Johnson also related that Mayes is still in the exploratory stage and not yet ready to declare her candidacy. She formed an exploratory committee last week, which drew fire from Democrats for having "all the tell-tale signs of a full-fledged campaign," which they suggested violated Arizona's resign-to-run law. Mayes's campaign has stated they are well within the limits of the law.
