DCCC adds Kirkpatrick, Lord to ‘Red to Blue’ program
By Koeun LeeThe Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Flagstaff) and Bob Lord (D-Phoenix) to its Red to Blue program.
Kirkpatrick is running against Sydney Hay (R-Munds Park) in the 1st Congressional District for the seat being vacated by Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Flagstaff).
Lord is competing against current congressman John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) in the 3rd Congressional District.
The Red to Blue program will provide candidates with economic and strategic assistance, including increased exposure. In the 2006 election cycle, the program raised nearly $22.6 million for Democratic candidates.
Chris Van Hollen, Chairman of the DCCC, said in a statement, "The candidates for change being named to the DCCC Red to Blue program are running strong campaigns and are committed to making things easier for middle class families in their districts."
Along with Kirkpatrick and Lord, the DCCC nominated 12 more candidates in the third round of the Red to Blue program. Eligibility is based on criteria such as how well the respective contender exceeds fundraising goals, expresses their endorsement for change and the new policies they plan to enact when elected to congress.

The only way Kirkpatrick gets anything in the 1st to go blue is if she holds her breath for a really long time.

Does this upset anyone else?
Do we really think the DCCC's "Red to Blue" program should be choosing the primary candidate? Call me old-fashioned, but I still favor the political process. I'm all for Bob Lord, but Kirkpatrick officially faces three opponents in the primary. While Mary Kim Titla and Jeffrey Brown probably don't have a strong chance, Howard Shanker has been giving her a serious run for her (big) money. So let's not anoint Kirkpatrick and her DCCC cohorts just yet.
Maupin and Kirkpatrick
The CD1 race is between centrist Maupin and rewrite Hillary-Democrat Kirkpatrick. Hay's out of it even with hanging on McCains coattails; her own party support is lukewarm at best. Maupin's pulling in supporters at Republican and Democrat events with his ability to speak from his heart and engage his brain at the same time. This is a populist, and people are noticing. Change DC for a better AZ!
It is really great to see those people in Washington finally understanding that we want change! I know so many people here who have been supporting Bob Lord's campaign. About time those DC knuckleheads caught on.
I have to admit you guys
I have to admit you guys talk alot about Kirkpatrick. Wasn't this story just up a week ago? What makes it news again?

Kirkpatric is running against Hay? Come on, there are others in this race including Korn on the Republican side who at least shows up for forums and Titla on the Democrat side.
Let's not forget about Maupin who, unlike the others, is talking issues while the others are offering talking points along party lines.
At this point I'd have to say if Independent candidate Maupin continues to talk issues and raises some cash he will be a contender.
I remember last time around
I remember last time around Harry Mitchell was put on Red to Blue and look what happened.
I always knew Bob Lord would be a candidate to reckon with and the DCCC just upped his ability to take Shadegg out of office. Bob Lord will beat Shadegg and he will turn that Congressional seat from Red to Blue.
Way to go Bob.
I keep telling you Shadegg is going down!
Lord is a fantastic candidate - smart, energetic, and passionate about finding solutions to the challenges that our nation faces.
Shadegg is in real big trouble.
