Kirkpatrick announces endorsement from Giffords

Former Democratic state representative Ann Kirkpatrick today announced the endorsement of Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona's 8th congressional district. Giffords is up for reelection and expecting a tough challenge from Senate President Tim Bee.

Kirkpatrick is in a crowded primary to replace retiring Republican Congressman Rick Renzi in CD1. Other democratic candidates include former TV anchor Mary Kim Titla and attorney Howard Shanker. On the Republican side, Trade Association Executive Director Sydney Hay and State Rep. Andy Tobin have jumped in.

For Giffords to get involved in a Democratic primary she would need to be relatively sure Kirkpatrick was going to be the winner. Kirkpatrick does have the early support from a lot of party establishment members and also the fundraising advantage, but both Titla and Shanker are waging an aggressive race for the nomination.
