John Adams backs Obama

No less an illustrious name than John Adams will be voting to nominate Illinois Senator Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention this August... John C. Adams, that is.

Last Saturday, the Arizona Democratic Party held caucuses to select 37 delegates and six alternates to represent the state at the DNC. Among them was John Adams, who is neither the 2nd president of the United States nor the 17th mayor of Phoenix (1897-99).

"The faces of our delegation reflect the many faces of our state," said Don Bivens, Chairman of the AZ Dems, who noted in the press release congratulating the delegates that they hail from Hispanic, European, African-American and Native American backgrounds. "I'm proud that Democrats are the party of inclusion."

The balance of the pledged delegates will be chosen at the state party convention April 26.

The pledged delegates are:

Those supporting Barack Obama are Gov. Janet Napolitano and Rep. Raul Grijalva. Reps. Gabrielle Giffords and Harry Mitchell are undeclared at the moment, as is Don Bivens.

It is possible Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard will also be selected as a superdelegate on April 26.
