The fifth district

The early wisdom is former Maricopa County Treasurer David Schweikert is the Republican to beat in the primary to take on Harry Mitchell in CD 5.  Many observers wrote off former state Rep. Laura Knaperek saying she is a nice lady but won’t have enough fire in the belly to compete with the fiery Schweikert.  But don’t look now -- Knaperek is running a professional campaign with a top notch team that knows how to win.

Knaperek has retained the Nathan Sproul group along with Gordon and Lisa James to help with fundraising, is running an active campaign schedule, and is sending out weekly email updates.  Schweikert is thought to have more financial commitments to date but until those dollars are in the door that is all they are commitments. While it’s way too early to announce Knaperek as a front runner, this race is a long way from over.
