The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has seized on Pres. Bush's low approval to attack U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) by actually morphing the long serving 3rd Congressional District Republican into the president over the course of their new ad.

The generally accepted wisdom is that Republicans are set to suffer this election cycle due to their association with a president who has close to the lowest popularity of any since the advent of polling. Though the 3rd district likely still favors the Republican incumbent due to the registration advantage the GOP holds and a long right-leaning voting history, the DCCC is betting that Bush's unpopularity will trump Shadegg's inherent advantage.

The ad starts with a still photo of Shadegg on a television screen, and while the announcers read claims that Shadegg has "voted with Bush 90 percent of the time," "stood by while Bush allowed Wall Street to ruin our economy," and "promoted the Bush plan to privatize Social Security,"Shadegg's features reconfigure into Bush's.

By the end of the ad, Shadegg has been replaced entirely by Pres. Bush, and the final image shows Bush on the television screen in the commercial next to graphics reading: "Shadegg has changed. So should we."
