Romley responds to Thomas release: 'I'm not tipping my hand'
By Evan Brown, PolitickerAZ.com ReporterFormer Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley said he doesn't know where the campaign of current Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas got the idea he is endorsing Thomas rival Tim Nelson, but that he is still staying silent on his choice.
"I haven't told anyone in the press - and they've tried to get me to give hints, but I'm not saying. I haven't shown anyone the release I've prepared," Romley told PolitickerAZ.com.
Romley said he hadn't seen the press release from the Thomas camp, in which the incumbent said:
“I respect Rick’s public service, but I know he has had a difficult time letting go of the office and allowing me to do my job. His public criticisms of me, which began the first week after I took office, took exception to my crackdowns on easy plea bargains and illegal immigration. But those changes have helped lead to a reduction in crime and illegal immigration throughout the Valley."
"Maybe they're trying to get out in front of me, or anticipate what my decision is," said Romley, "but I'm still not going to tip my hand."
