Giffords keeps focus on vets with new spot

The campaign of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Tucson) unveiled a new ad Friday set to begin running throughout the 8th Congressional District in heavy rotation.

The new spot, entitled "Generations," puts the focus on issues concerning veterans' care, and highlights what she considers to be her main accomplishments in that arena, especially the Combat Troops Tax Relief Act, a bill she wrote designed to help soldiers lessen their tax burden.

The release of "Generations" follows on the heels of Giffords announcing the formation of Veterans for Giffords, a group intended to help bolster her standing among former servicemembers.

While Giffords's opponent, state Sen. Pres. Tim Bee (R-Tucson) hit the airwaves long ago, this is the first excursion into TV advertising for the incumbent. However, according to numbers from the campaign, the ad buy is massive - around $50,000 for the first week alone.

The Giffords campaign - along with the help of the cash-flush Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee - plans to outspend Bee in media from now until election day. According to their figures, they project it could be by as much as a 12-to-1 margin by the week of the November election.

The 90,000 veterans in her

The 90,000 veterans in her district, myself included, undoubtedly realize that the troops she shows at the beginning aren't American troops. US troops have never carried those rifles. How can Giffords fight for veterans if she doesn't even know what we look like?

Maybe caring about our veterans is not an important issue to you...

But with 90,000 veterans in her district and not to mention their families out of approximately 600,000 that's a pretty large amount of the district who care about Vets issues. Especially the Mitchell-Webb GI Bill that can be passed on to the kids of the many of these veterans.

So I wouldn't be telling the Gifford's campaign what to do, its seems like you are one who doesn't understand southern Arizona.

The southern Arizona campaigns are not using their polling to run their campaigns. They're talking far to much about second teir issues and not focussing on the Economy. The hacks running their campaigns are getting too cute with this campaign. It's time for the pros to take over...
