Laura Knaperek, who is running in a field of six contenders for the Republican nomination in the 5th Congressional District, has released a white paper detailing her views on energy. In what she terms the "50% Doctrine," Knaperek is calling for the United States to produce 50 percent of its own energy by 2028, a 15 percent increase, she said, over today's level.
"The American people are expecting Congress to take immediate action," said Knaperek. "The Congress must adopt a comprehensive plan of action for the short and long term while meeting the market demands in a cost efficient, environmentally-responsible manner. I’m prepared to do the hard work to help resolve America’s looming energy crisis."
Knaperek is proposing a variety of methods to ramp up domestic energy production. She favors building new oil refineries and nuclear power plants, drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and off the nation's coasts, as well as National Science Foundation grants for research and development into emerging energy technologies.
Like many Republicans, Knaperek's proposal boils down to an "all of the above" approach such as national Republicans have been supporting. No energy stone is left unturned, as Knaperek mentioned oil shale, bio-diesel, wind, solar, coal gasification and a slew of other energy options in her paper.

Hey, look! Not just one
Hey, look! Not just one plan, but several plans to increase domestic energy production.
Do you know what Harry Mitchell's thoughts on this are? Shut up and get used to high energy prices.
Hmmmm, I think Laura gets my vote.
I was there
I was @ ASU when Clinton, Pelosi and crew all came into town promising hope and a new world by electing Harry Mitchell. He has done nothing but flip-flop on key issues and vote how Pelosi has demanded. He was a fling. Nothing more.
Long Long way away
Since you are a student of politics you should know that in 2006 Laura lost a race for state rep to two students in their 20's.
She is a long was from being the republican nominee and a long way from being the heavy weight it would take to challenge a very popular seated congressman.
Knaperek has a history of
Knaperek has a history of getting things done. Here is her plan. Stop attacking her personally and talk about her plan.
Harry has done nothing. Nothing as mayor, nothing as senator and now nothing as Representative.
Send Harry home and let's put Knaperek back in office so somehting will get done!
You must be a mindless Liberal
The energy crisis started decades ago, not 7 years ago, and it could have been nipped in the bud if it weren't for a veto by Mrs. Clinton's husband. Ya, that is right, Student. If Billy boy would have signed the drilling bill into law more than a decade ago we would have 1.50 gas today. BTW, Harry voted 5 x to not let us drill!!!
If you are really a student and into politics, than you should know about all the programs Mrs. Knaperek has helped set in place for students.
Mr. Harry" Me and my goons steal signs" Mitchell has done nothing in his 2 years in the House and even less in his years as a local state rep/ Senator. All he wants is 2 more terms so he can get his retirement package from the Federal Gov't to add to his 2 other pensions.
Knaperek calling on U.S.
Out of the 5 or 6 candidates she is not even a front runner. She is a long way from challenging Harry Mitchell to debates or Calling on the U.S. to take action.
As for energy it is a result of 8 years of a failed administration and as for Mrs. Knaperek she is a long way from being the republican contender.
This Congress is doing less
This Congress is doing less than nothing. Even if Harry Mitchell would come up with a plan now, it would only be an election ploy.
Knaperek's plan sounds reasonable. The one with the plan gets my vote!
Great Ideas
I love the energy options that Mrs. Laura Knaperek puts out in her piece. I believe that she really hit the nail on the head with this one.
