Ogsbury gets Kolbe's backing

Today CD5 Republican congressional candidate Jim Ogsbury received the endorsement of former U.S. Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-8) in the five-way primary.

"Jim Ogsbury is a principled conservative with deep Arizona roots and an understanding of the issues that face our state and our nation,” said Kolbe.  “He has the toughness and the experience needed to get the Congress working for the interests of people again."

Ogsbury responded with kind words of his own toward the former congressman.

"I am sincerely grateful to sreceive the support of a statesman like Jim Kolbe,” said Ogsbury. “Congressman Kolbe served his district honorably for more than two decades, advancing free trade, protecting military institutions in his district and attending to the needs of his constituents.”

“I can only hope to serve the residents of the Fifth District as admirably as Congressman Kolbe served his," Ogsbury added.

Kolbe retired from Congress in 2006, and has spent a good deal of time this election season helping Republican causes, especially the campaign of state Sen. Pres. Tim Bee, who is challenging Kolbe's successor, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, to retake the CD8 seat for the GOP. Kolbe flies to Washington, D.C. tomorrow to attend a fundraiser for Bee among top Republican officials in Congress.

Bloggin' Bias

Citizen,

Citing "Sonoran Alliance" for an argument against Kolbe is like citing the Huffington Post for an argument against Republicans. The verbiage of their coverage appears heavily biased so I'm guessing they've already abandoned their "journalist integrity" and chosen a candidate before the race has really begun. In a town where conservatives can't hold their food down while reading "The Arizona Repugnant", Sonoran Alliance should strive for a little more transparency. The kind of talk they published under the guise of a story should be reserved for a comments section.

Here are the facts. Jim Kolbe has done nothing but represent Arizona on the national stage with honesty and integrity for the better part of two decades. Whatever you feel about the man's personal life, politicians considered stalwart
"Conservatives" have sullied the reputation of this state...Symington, Alt Fuels, ect.
Not to mention he has the political courage to be the first former or current U.S. Congressman to endorse anyone in this race.

Just as Sonoran Alliance argued anyone running in CD5 would take the Club for Growth endorsement months ago (which I agree with), anyone would have been more than happy to add Kolbe to their list of supporters. Cut the character assassinations and let's, at least on this day, congratulate Mr. Ogsbury.

Kolbe, really???

I just thought I may point out something from the Sonoran Alliance website:
"Kolbe was one of the only openly homosexual Republicans in Congress who consistently voted against pro-life legislation (including a ban on partial birth abortion!) and other culturally conservative legislation." Does that sound anything like a a person that would endorse "The Real Conservative" that Ogsbury claims to be?

Ogsbury for Congress

Ogsbury is a prime choice for Congressman in CD5. He has his hands solidly on the steering wheel vis-a-vis spending cuts at the Federal level (he has done it big time), and is unusually well versed on national issues. Ogsbury leads the pack when it comes to solutions.

Impressive

An endorsement that actually means something to real Arizonans. Nice pickup Mr. Ogsbury.

Jim for Jim

Kudos to Jim Ogsbury on picking up this major endorsement. In my opinion, there are few legislators in the state that garner as much respect as Jim Kolbe. In race where the press is fairly silent, it is great to hear a distinguished man like Kolbe sees potential in Ogsbury.
