PHOENIX — Congressman John Shadegg today voted against the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act even after he told Arizona's largest newspaper that he would support the solar tax credits within it. (Roll call vote)
"John Shadegg's vote just proves that he will say just about anything for political purposes, but will break his promises when he gets back to Washington," said Andrew Eldredge-Martin, Bob Lord's campaign manager. "He has been lying to us about his support for solar and renewable power. The truth is that Shadegg is a solid vote for the oil industry in Washington so he can continue getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the oil, gas, and energy companies."
In an April 24 article in the Arizona Republic, Shadegg said he is "strongly pro-solar and vote that way," and that he would support extension of the tax credits. (LINK)
In a House vote today, Shadegg broke his promise and against a bill that will reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil, increase national security and increase renewable energy production. It extends and expands tax incentives for solar and renewable energy, energy for plug-in hybrid cars, and energy efficient homes, buildings and appliances.
The bill is critical to creating and preserving hundreds of thousands of good-paying green collar American jobs, including in the solar industry right here in Arizona.
Shadegg has continued to voice his strong support for Big Oil, and has received more than $440,000 from the oil, gas, and energy sector in campaign contributions, according to Federal Election Commission records.
"Arizonans are forward-thinking and all John Shadegg wants to do is keep us where we are – dependent on oil and emptying our wallets for the oil and gas companies," Eldredge-Martin said. "Bob Lord is running to change Washington and support his constituents – not to protect the oil industry like John Shadegg."
