Two days ago, House Minority Leader Phil Lopes (D-Tucson) discussed the Democrats' strategy for shoring up gains made in the Legislature and adding new seats to the Democratic column.
However, according to the Arizona Democratic Party, Lopes misspoke when he claimed that LD9 would see a new Democratic entry to the field. It now seems he was speaking of LD7.
The as-yet-unnamed contender, who may make up her mind (we know it's a she) by week's end, would try to poach the seat of either Rep. Nancy Barto (R-Phoenix) or Rep. Ray Barnes (R-Phoenix) in November.
Yet the Democrats may yet make a play for LD9. It is rumored that Sheri Van Horsen, who ran for a seat there in 2006, may try her luck again.
