Citing his new position as CEO of GeoBio, a biofuel company, former State Senate President Ken Bennett told PolitickerAZ today he will not enter the race in the First Congressional District.
"It really came down to the committments I've made on the business side," said Bennett, who, after deciding against a run last September, was reconsidering the decision at the behest of local and national GOP leaders.
"It just wasn't a good time from the perspective of the company," he continued. "The company is just at a critical point where we’re trying to execute the business plan, and it wasn’t at a situation where my absence would easily have been dealt with."
Bennett was regretful about not jumping in. "I feel we would have done really well," he said.
At the moment, Bennett will not throw his support behind either Sydney Hay or Preston Korn, both of whom are battling for the nomination to the seat.
"I like them both," said Bennett. "I haven't decided whether or for whom I will make a primary endorsement."
